New township park and nature trail adopt respectful brand
Independence Park in East Vincent Township was so named because Independence Drive cuts through it but, more importantly, the new park and trail emerge in liberated contrast to the legacy of the land they occupy.
The former site of Pennhurst State School and Hospital was surrounded by forests when it was shuttered in 1977 and today some of the remaining woodlands include a two-mile rustic trail loop. The Indy Trail—a shorthand salute to Independence—features four diverse sections that each showcase clearly distinct geographic terrain, flora and fauna.
The quartet of individual trails—Meadow, Canopy, Forest, and Habitat—help trail users understand where they are and what to expect during a hike or trail run. Each section is almost the exact same distance and welcomes trail users with friendly signage.
VFC developed branding for the East Vincent Township asset that includes on-trail wayfinding and trailhead signs as well as a main welcome sign for the Indy Trail that features a custom illustrated map. Indy Trail was branded with a bold logotype that will coexist with the Independence Park identity.
“As a mostly B-to-B creative marketing firm, VFC has become very fond of park and trail branding as a side hustle,” said Creative Director Todd Palmer. “We are all outdoor people and we go deep into connecting the personality of place to brand.”
The VFC team also put a lot of pro bono work into the Indy Trail, helping to design and blaze the entire loop and producing videos to announce the trail to residents.
VFC is also helping promote the first event on the Indy Trail and at Independence Park. The Rugged Indy, a trail run with three competitive event distances and a community walk is scheduled for November 17, 2024, and proceeds will benefit East Vincent Township parks.
”You could say we’re obsessive about discovering, using, and enjoying the natural places we are helping to improve, brand and promote.
