Engineered trail system adopts custom cartography.
Mountain bikers in the know have been traveling to Blue Marsh Lake’s trails for many years, but the newest sections of singletrack are fun, flowy and defined.
Berks Area Mountain Biking Association (BAMBA), an affiliate of the International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA), is responsible for the creation, enhancement, and preservation of great trail experiences for mountain bikers in Berks County, Pennsylvania—a region synonymous with legendary cycling of all varieties.
The club’s purview includes Blue Marsh Lake—one of the most epic mountain biking destinations in Berks County. Although the main loop was always on the official map of Blue Marsh Lake, the new network of flow trail was special enough to necessitate a creative upgrade!
In 2019, BAMBA started the process of developing a plan to revitalize the trail system using modern trail building techniques—incorporating multiple new loops to create an attractive, user-friendly circuit for all skill levels, families and adaptive riders.
The organization partnered with the Army Corp of Engineers to secure grant funding, along with private donors within the community, that resulted in mountain bike optimized singletrack that breathes new life into the Blue Marsh trail system. The resulting flow trail network, completed in 2022, was named and branded by VFC and the creation of a custom map provides visitors of all skill levels with all of the information required for an awesome day in the woods, on the bike!
”VFC’s interpretative design of our Blue Marsh Flow Trail guide clearly communicates how to navigate our new trail system, and they backed it up with creative copywriting that conveyed our mission for this project.
